Kayaking like most extreme sports is potentially fatal. The hazards are too numerous to list here. However, with proper instruction and equipment the hazards can be minimalized. This book is not meant to be any kind of instruction. It is only a general discussion. All information presented should not be relied upon for safety. It is intended as a partial list of issues you may bring up with a certified instructor. No actual paddle techniques are discussed because you must use a certified instructor if you want to learn the way of water safely. Always use your common sense. Good luck and enjoy your upcoming adventures. IntroductionFor more than 40 years I have paddled, sailed and canoed all over Puget Sound. I have been told that there are 2000 miles of shoreline and more than 300 hundred islands to explore. In all my time I have never been bored by the ever-changing tides and currents. The water has been a major part of my life. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Tanner De Bruyne. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/154495/bk_acx0_154495_sample.mp3. August 2014: I set my trusty 14-foot kayak in my lagoon. It was a rising tide heading south, and I had several hours before it reversed and dumped some 13 or more feet of water out of the inlet. Eld Inlet is approximately six nautical miles long. The southern two miles can be navigated only at high tide. It turns into a mud flat and a shellfish farm at low tide. At high tide it is a pristine waterway of immense beauty. I left my lagoon just as the fog was lifting. It gave me a mile of visibility and would continue to lift just as it did every day in the last half of August. I have never known the phenomenon of fog to be different in the last 25 years. Sometime at the end of August, it will just be cloudy all day. There will be sunny days in September and October, but the sun will never go so high in the sky or be as warm. The days will rapidly be darker and shorter until late December. Be that as it may, today was one of those luscious days of paddling and reflecting on the joys of summer. 1. Language: English. Lying down in a kayak to go under obstacles like a fallen tree across a creek is called ´´doing the kayak limbo´´. Our hero must access a secret saltwater canal by traveling through a bridge culvert in his kayak in order to go under a road to seek refuge from the violence of societal breakdown occurring all around him. It is said that if you want to change the world, find someone to help you paddle. However, if you get stranded a thousand miles from home in the tourist section of Panama City Beach, Florida, by a solar storm without a car, asking strangers to help you survive or paddle is not much of an option. Far from home without a gun to defend himself with, Bob must find a way to get food and protect his possessions from would-be thieves in this post-apocalyptic world. Luckily, he has his fishing gear with him along with an inflatable kayak he brought on the airplane with him for recreation. Now his luggage has become his bug-out gear. Others want what he has, and he tries to flee the area to avoid them. Youth gangs take over the area where he resides. This audiobook will teach you a lot about survival crabbing as our displaced traveler practices the arts of being a master solo-kayak crabber to feed himself and other survivors in a grid-down world. 1. In Death on the River, best-selling true crime author Diane Fanning recounts a tragic kayak accident that left one man dead - and his fiancee arrested for his murder.A dream getaway. A real-life nightmare....It seemed like the perfect romantic afternoon: a kayaking trip for two on the Hudson River. But it ended in tragedy when beautiful, blonde Angelika Graswald called 911 to report that her fiance, the handsome and athletic Vincent Viafore, had fallen into the choppy frigid waters. Authorities assumed it was an accident. But when the bereft bride-to-be posted videos of herself doing cartwheels on social media - shortly before Vincent´s body was found - suspicions of murder rose to the surface....After hours of questioning, Angelika made several shocking admissions. She said she felt ´´trapped´´ and fed up with Vincent´s ´´demanding´´ sexual lifestyle: the nightlife, the strip clubs, the threeways.´´I wanted him dead,´´ she had said, even though she insisted that she didn´t kill him.But as more lurid details emerged - including a $250,000 life insurance policy - a killer question remained: Did Angelika remove the plug of her fiance´s boat...and knock away his paddle as he sank? 1.
